firstgrade

On Tuesday, March 10, four students from Beman Middle School visited Mrs. Howe’s first grade classroom at Farm Hill School to share a unique storytelling experience. Accompanied by Mrs. Brandi and Steve McKeever, the students read two short stories they had written and created themselves.

What made these stories especially impressive was the way they were produced. Both the storylines and the illustrations were created entirely through computer coding written by the students. No clip art or outside programs were used in the process. Every visual and piece of text was generated through the code they developed, demonstrating both creativity and growing programming skills.

Following the reading, the Beman students spent time working with the first graders on a fun and creative activity. The older students helped the younger students draw covers for their favorite stories, giving them the opportunity to express their imagination while learning from their middle school mentors.

The visit provided a wonderful opportunity for students of different grade levels to collaborate and share their talents, combining storytelling, technology, and art in a meaningful way.

Steve McKeever would like to give special thanks to Sarah Brandi and Erica Howe for their cooperation and support in making this project possible.
