1st grade

Farm Hill Elementary’s Grade 1 students wrapped up their Science unit with an exciting hands-on exploration of Light and Sound. Guided by teachers Mrs. Howe, Mrs. Williams, and Miss Wilson, the young scientists spent the past several weeks discovering how light is produced, how sound travels, and how both play important roles in everyday life.

Throughout the unit, students experimented with a variety of materials to observe how different objects can create light or sound. Using items such as flashlights, cellphones, drums, and metal water bottles, students tested their predictions, compared results, and shared their discoveries with classmates.

The culminating activity allowed students to put their learning into action by choosing materials and designing their own tools for making light or sound. Classrooms buzzed with excitement as students tapped, shone, shook, and explored their creations.

Teachers say the unit not only helped students understand science concepts, but also encouraged creativity, teamwork, and curiosity. “It was wonderful seeing our students think like real scientists,” said the Grade 1 team. “They asked questions, tested ideas, and had so much fun learning together.”

Farm Hill’s First Graders are now looking forward to their next science adventure—building on the bright and bold start they’ve already made.
