Students at KPA recently turned their classroom into a creative music workshop as part of an exciting unit on percussion instruments. After learning about the different types of percussion instruments and how they make sound, students were challenged to design and build their own.
Using a variety of materials provided by their teachers, each student decided what kind of instrument to create and which supplies would work best. From homemade drums and shakers to tambourines and cymbals, the classroom buzzed with creativity, rhythm, and excitement.
To celebrate their hard work, the students decided to form their very own marching band! As a culminating event, they proudly marched through the kindergarten and first-grade classrooms, playing their handmade instruments in AB and ABB rhythmic patterns. The younger students clapped along and smiled as the parade passed by, filling the halls with music and joy.
After the performance, each student shared their project, explaining what they made, how they played it, and what materials they used. Teachers and students alike were amazed by the thought, effort, and creativity that went into each instrument.
The project not only reinforced lessons about sound and rhythm but also encouraged teamwork, innovation, and self-expression—making it a truly memorable experience for everyone involved.
KPA’s future musicians proved that with imagination and rhythm, learning can really make some noise!
