1st grade

The first graders at Farm Hill School had a busy and exciting week filled with hands-on learning and creativity! As part of a fall-themed STEM project, students explored engineering, problem-solving, and math concepts through a variety of engaging activities.

One group of students used pipe cleaners to build slider webs, carefully testing how many small sliders could fit on their web before it became too full. Another group got inventive with Keva planks, constructing fences around miniature pumpkins to see how strong and tall their structures could be. Meanwhile, a third group transformed place value blocks into cozy bat caves, combining math tools with imaginative play.

Throughout the projects, every student kept track of the materials they used and illustrated their final creations in their STEM journals. The activity encouraged planning, collaboration, and reflection—along with plenty of smiles and laughter.

From spider webs to pumpkin fences and bat caves, Farm Hill’s first graders proved that learning really can be spook-tacular!
