Middletown, CT – Farm Hill Elementary School is excited to announce the beginning of its DARE (Drug Abuse Resistance Education) program this winter, in collaboration with Officer Ben Murphy of the Middletown Police Department. The 10-week program will engage students in lessons aimed at promoting healthy choices and building life skills to resist drug abuse, bullying, and violence.
Officer Murphy, a familiar face in the Middletown community, will lead the program with the aim of educating students about making positive decisions and understanding the consequences of harmful behaviors. Throughout the series of lessons, students will participate in interactive discussions and activities, designed to instill confidence, respect, and responsibility. The program will cover a range of topics, including how to deal with peer pressure, the dangers of drugs and alcohol, and the importance of making good choices.
“The DARE program has been an invaluable resource for schools across the country for over 30 years. We are thrilled to bring this experience to Farm Hill Elementary,” said Principal Jen Calabrese. “By providing students with these important tools early on, we are giving them a foundation of knowledge that will help them navigate difficult situations in the future.”
The program is designed to be engaging, with a strong emphasis on participation and open dialogue. Officer Murphy, expressed his enthusiasm for working with the students. “It’s an honor to be part of such an important program,” he said. “The kids are always so eager to learn, and I’m excited to guide them through these important lessons. By the end of the program, they’ll not only have a better understanding of the risks of drugs and alcohol, but also how to handle challenges in a positive way.”
The DARE program at Farm Hill Elementary School will conclude with a special DARE Graduation ceremony in the spring. Students who complete the program and meet the set requirements will be celebrated for their commitment to learning and making positive choices. This ceremony will mark a significant achievement for the students, as they proudly receive their DARE certificates.
"We’re all looking forward to seeing the students shine at the graduation," Principal Calabrese added. "This program isn’t just about learning – it’s about fostering a sense of accomplishment and empowering students to take control of their futures."
The DARE program at Farm Hill Elementary School is an important step toward shaping the future of the students, providing them with the skills they need to grow into responsible, confident, and compassionate individuals.
