In exciting news, the Kindergarten and KPA classes have each adopted a calf from a farm through Discovery Dairy (https://www.discoverdairy.com/adopt-a-cow/) embarking on a year-long journey of learning about the life of a farm animal. The Kindergarten class has named their calf Minnie, while KPA has chosen the name Poppy for theirs.
Throughout the year, both classes will gain valuable knowledge about how calves grow and the important role they play on the farm. As Minnie and Poppy grow, the students will learn about their future role in milk production, exploring how these calves will one day contribute to the dairy industry. This experience will help the children understand the process of milk production and the hard work of the farmers who care for the animals
Ms. Carducci, Mrs. Bredefeld, and Mrs. Williams will receive regular updates and emails from the farm, sharing information about the calves’ development, health check-ups, and any important milestones. These updates will be discussed with the students, helping them learn more about animal care, agriculture, and the cycle of life on a farm.
Both Kindergarten and KPA are excited about the opportunity to follow Minnie and Poppy’s journey from calves to adult cows, gaining a deeper appreciation for the role animals play in our food systems. The calves’ growth will be a central part of classroom discussions throughout the year, and students can’t wait to share their findings with each other.
The adoption of Minnie and Poppy is sure to be a highlight of the school year, combining education with the joy of watching two young calves thrive in the care of dedicated farmers.
